[Charity Club Activity Report] Ashio Copper Mine Tree-Planting Project: Bringing Green Back to Mountains Devastated by Copper Mining

On Sunday, May 11, four Mrs. Universe Japan 2025 finalists took part in a tree-planting tour at the Ashio Copper Mine in Tochigi Prefecture, hosted by the ethical jewelry brand “YURI SATO.” The tour was introduced to us by the International Kubinade Association (General Incorporated Association), which led the self-massage session at our Beauty Camp in March.

Blessed with the fresh, clear weather typical of May, the finalists learned about the history of the Ashio Copper Mine while refreshing both body and mind.

“These mountains once lost even their animals, but lately bears and deer have started to appear again.”

We hope the trees we planted today will help bring the green back to the mountains of Ashio.

Hearing the stories, I learned for the first time that besides the smoke pollution from the Ashio Copper Mine, there had also been fires. I truly felt how important it is that so many people plant trees to restore nature that was destroyed, and that the green grows back little by little.

Neiro Edagawa

Thank you so much for this valuable experience today🙇‍♀️

I learned about how resource extraction and environmental conservation should coexist.

I would like to spread this in my community from an environmental and educational perspective❗️

Mari Fujita

Coming from Kagawa Prefecture, I had never known about the tragic events at this copper mine or the mountain fires… but

by taking part in this volunteer activity,

I was able to learn a great deal.

I am so grateful to Yuri, who organized the event,

to everyone who joined, and to the “hermits” of the mountain as well.

I will keep supporting this activity so that it can continue in the future.

Thank you very much for today.

Kazuko Omukai

Thank you so much for giving us such a valuable experience today🙇‍♀️

We were blessed with good weather, and I felt healed by the refreshing air and the beautiful scenery😌

Many people had visited the Ashio mine to plant trees, and I was moved to see the green gradually returning.

I hope the trees, planted with the wishes of so many people, will grow tall🙇‍♀️
